5.0 out of 5 stars Technological Tank, September 12, 2008

This review is from: Casio Men's GW9200-1 G-Shock Riseman Alti-Therm Solar Atomic Watch (Watch)
By bringing together the toughness of a G-Shock and the core features of a Pathfinder/ProTrek, the Riseman is doubtlessly the best G-Shock on the market.

The Riseman is a technological tank: wrapped in a solid, eye-pleasing, and elaborate shield with brushed steel inserts is a high precision measurement instrument that gives very reliable readings of barometric pressure, altitude, temperature as well as reasonably accurate weather patterns. Fascinatingly, the watch gets its energy from the sun (or other minor sources of light, such as a bulb) and is the first watch in the world to synchronize time via radio waves from 6 different atomic clocks around the world (depending on your location). Other handy features: 24+ world times, 24hr stopwatch, 24hr countdown and 5 alarms.

The use of screen space in the main timekeeping mode is exceptional as it includes, besides the time, day & date, a 2-hourly reading of atmospheric pressure within the "red eye". This gives you... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything I need, December 27, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Casio Men's GW9200-1 G-Shock Riseman Alti-Therm Solar Atomic Watch (Watch)
I need to start off by saying my watch of choice are usually analog. I own a Tissot, a Citizen, a Swiss Army. I wanted a watch that was worry free and accurate. What I needed were:
1. solar recharge
2. atomic syncronizing
3. multi band
4. Able to read weather (this thing actually predicts the weather..cool!)
5. DURABLE

I needed an every day watch and this was perfect. I was really surprised when I took it out of the box and it was completely setup and ready to go. No need to go through lengthy setups with timezones and calanders. Not only that, but I'll NEVER have to do this to this watch. I also should note that it even syncs itself nightly. The manual suggests leaving it on a window facing south. However, Im able to just leave it anywhere in my house and it recieves.

This was also a test to see if a solar capable watch would work for me since I work in a "closed" area in a barely lit computer lab 9 hours a day and I rarely am... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Military Watch, March 14, 2009
This review is from: Casio Men's GW9200-1 G-Shock Riseman Alti-Therm Solar Atomic Watch (Watch)
My brother is in the Marine Corps and when I saw his old watch I realized he needed something tough. His old watch had fallen apart due to physical beatings (the face was cracked) exposed to the elements (at the time he was stationed in Arizona)and the band was cracking.

I did research and came across the G-Shock. I read reviews for different models all over the internet and saw a lot of military personnel (both active and retired) give this watch rave reviews. It had the perfect amount of features (not too much, not too little) and wasn't flashy and followed his dress code for when he wears his Dress Blues and is lighter than it looks.

My brother got it for Xmas 08 and he has no complaints whatsoever. This watch has been subjected to the same abuse as the other (even more now that he is stationed in Afghanistan)and still looks new. The other guys on his base even liked it and went out and bought their own.

My brother says I found the perfect watch and... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZ-ZZIIINNNG!, November 28, 2005
This watch really truly is. I also made the unfortunate mistake of buying this watch at an after-Thanksgiving day department store promo, with the added benefit of long lines and $100 more to the price. Save some money and get this beautiful sparkly here... notice the way it catches the light when you're driving. Shine and beauty, and you would not believe how many compliments!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars SO Perfect for any size wrist, May 25, 2006
By
I got this watch for Mother's Day, with my initials engraved into the back of the dial -- I was so pleased. It's beautiful, the diamonds are just enough, the size is right between too small and too big making it the PERFECT size.

I laughed when I went to a local jewlery store and the woman asked if I had bought it there. She further stated it was on "sale" for $469.00, 30.00 off the original price. I smiled and told her we hadn't even paid $270.00, we saved over 200.00 off their sale price. If you want this watch BUY it, you will not find it any lower the $374.00 a sale price offered by a major department store.

This is a great watch for the money. I recently saw it in a department store selling for $200 more. Keep in mind that although it is a ladies watch, it is oversized. GREAT deal!! Looks like more than what it even retails for.

5.0 out of 5 stars A few observations for a prospective purchaser, August 20, 2006
By
Eric Krupin (Salt Lake City, UT) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Having owned the GW500AJP-1AV for a week, here are my thoughts on some of the points raised by the reviewers of this and other G-Shock models:

1. In my opinion, concerns about the thickness of the watch have been overstated. Certainly, if slimness is an *important* criterion for you, this isn't your watch. But you'll have no trouble fitting it under your shirt cuff. [Though the manual cautions that doing so will hamper the solar function.] Even my ridiculously slender wrists support it - physically and (I hope) esthetically - without difficulty.

2. The G-Shock models are advertised as rugged. I'm not about to use mine as a hockey puck to put that to the test. But it certainly *feels* sturdy. [The thickness helps here.] And from what I've read about them elsewhere, they do shrug off a considerable amount of punishment.

3. Everyone's experience with receiving the timekeeping signal from Fort Collins will vary depending on the particulars of their... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Great but thick, June 18, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
I first bought a Casio G-Shock type watch back in about '82, a DW-1000, actually a precursor to the G-Shock. Still works great to this day, though I've replaced the battery twice and replaced the resin band with a metal one. This watch has served me well over the years from hiking to scuba diving. So I decided it was time to upgrade to the latest technology - a solar powered G-Shock with "atomic" timekeeping.

This new watch performs great so far. It synchronizes to the Fort Collins signal every night without problems. I live roughly 700 miles from the transmitter. In the good old days I used to dial in the time signal on a shortwave radio to synchronize my watches. It's great to have a watch I can forget about setting.

I was a little concerned before I bought this watch that Casio was relying on the time sync and the watch might not be accurate without it. This is important to me because I frequently travel internationally. Not a problem. My watch had last been... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Make sure you have a backup, November 1, 2005
By
Daniel R. Greenfield "Dan" (Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States) - See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE)
This is an excellent watch. It is virtually indestructible, feeds on sunlight, and "phones home." The common criticisms of this and its atomic G-Shock siblings are that they are cumbersome and ugly. Admittedly, it is not the slimmest, sleekest watch in the world. And no, it isn't the most elegant either. And clearly, style and comfort do indeed enter into the equation when you are shopping for a watch. But this is not a fashion watch, nor was it ever meant to be one. It is a functional one. You might wear a sleek, beautiful Movado watch to the opera, but you are not likely to subject such a watch to all the stresses and strains of an active lifestyle. This watch will take whatever you can throw at it and then some, and it will be accurate to the atomic second. So, it is a very different kind of watch from a stylish Movado. My Movado sits quietly in the darkness of my jewelry cabinet most of the time; it is "too good" to wear every day.

I have worn my atomic G-Shock for over... Read more
